To each of you who wrote after my public mistake last night to express
understanding and good humor, I thank you.
To a couple of folks who were offended, I regret offending you and will try
to be more careful about reviewing the "To:" line on my pc screen before
sending.
My mistake reminds me of a story. I had a boss in the Navy many years ago
who had a very successful career. He told me something once that I have
always remembered. Talking about a mistake that he or I or someone else had
made, he said that mistakes were good. I looked at him somewhat puzzled,
wondering what he was thinking. He said mistakes were the way he learned
best. He said that when he really messed up and embarrassed himself badly,
that was a lesson he learned and a mistake he never made again.
