The 50k limit is to reduce the potential for inundating Listees mailboxes to the point
that their ISP will rejects all e-mails. It can happen very quickly. By comparrison,
a regulat e-mail is only 3k to 10k in size. >From the server logs I can see there are
are always at least 3 people at any one time who have exceeded their quota.
While I am not a moderator, I think that is what they are trying to accomplish by
limiting the subjects to Airstream Restoration, as Harvey noted.
There are many Listees who have have restored their trailers, in some cases many
trailers. Their active lifestyles allow checking e-mail every few days - or maybe
even once a week. It is for these people that we must be considerate, as their wealth
of knowledge would be greatly missed if they had to drop from the List. The List
learned this the hard way, as many List pioneers drifted away due to the burgeoning
e-mail quantity.
It is this that drove the addition of the daily digest format to keep the movers and
shakers of the restoration world on the List - and anyone else whose life doesn't
revolve around the Internet.
Hope this explains some of the reasoning behind the limitations.
