Ovens are pretty much a pain to work on- the reason being that the
manufacturers used many different oven controls- to replace one, you have
to remove it and take the numbers off of the valve itself.
The reason I say this is that some ranges have the pilot controls
behind the temp knob, some have pilot controls that are ganged with the
stove top pilot control, some have two or three pilot controls (standing
pilot, heater pilot, and top pilot.)
This is probably why your owners manual didn't cover it, and why
it is dificult to diagnose long distance.
