I will be making measurements with a lab type light meter calibrated in
foot candles when I get to that project. I think I'll be able to
correlate candela and coverage to light levels on the task surface. I
need to find an IES handbook to help in those computations.

The most intense LED diodes tend to have a very narrow beam spread.
