Okay, I know this isn't a tinkerer's solution, but what about leaving the 
oven/range in place and storing stuff in it.  It's already got built in 
adjustable shelves and it wouldn't be nearly as much work.  (An idea passed 
on from my grandmother who had a 63 Globetrotter).
