Bob,

I know that if you are a private pilot, you can allow passengers to
share actual expenses of a trip (not including your portion!) without
being in violation of rules and regs.  I would expect that hauling a
trailer for a friend would be essentially the same type of thing.  As
long as there is no "profit" it's just a favor.

If you have an attorney you normally deal with he'd be the one to ask
what liability you would incur.
