Jerry,
         The same principle of using coarse pads and then reducing the 
grain to a finer pad applies to many polishes.  I have found that 3M Heavy 
Duty Polishing Compound in one gallon jugs and 3M double side pads with a 
heavy duty polisher work as good as the pricier brands that come in a 
little jar.
