Bob:
The Alaskan campers are stamped aluminum under the white
paint, so will shine up nicely (I imagine, have not done it
yet) once the paint is removed and the Nuvite starts
spinning.
Another option is to find an older 1960's vintage
aluminum camper shell (a/k/a topper or fishermans hut) to
mount on your 1966 Ford F250 pick truck. My 1957 Flying
Cloud has the Hehr windows, and I located an old camper
shell in a my favorite truck junk yard an hour away from
Denver that has the same style Hehr windows (that were also
used on the Alaskan). The matching windows on the '57 FC
and that camper shell on my 1970 W200 Dodge 3/4 ton 4X4 will
make a good looking rig when I get it all together.
Your A/S trailer has square corner windows, but so did
most of the camper shells from those same years. The great
thing about old camper shells is they generally used the
same RV window suppliers as the trailer manufacturers, so it
should not be too difficult for you to find an nice old
aluminum camper shell that has windows which match those on
your A/S trailer. Most camper shells were painted in the
1960s, but they can be stripped and polished, painted whole,
or just trimmed in paint the same color as your truck
body.
Check in Mira Mar Truck Salvage :) or other local San
Diego junkyards. If the neighborhood control freaks have
been too screamy and have forced all those old time vehicle
recyclers to leave town, you may have to travel a few hours
away to the more interesting corners of this planet where
old stuff is stockpiled and left to rust in peace instead of
being cried at, carried off, crushed and recycled.
Good luck in your search!
