Actually, the treated alloy extrusions on the window and door frames are
one of the few places you can use  grades of steel wool (courser to
finer) to remove pits, corrosion and clearcoat without embedding
particles in the surface.  Just go with the length (grain) of the
extrusion, and don't use steel wool on the skin surface.
