1) Yes, the shell is attached to the floor, which is attached to the frame. 2) It all depends on what you consider 'hard'. I'm currently doing a 'shell-off' on a '48. Different frame/shell construction, but the attached drawing might give you an idea.... Tuna Reno, NV
