One of the best sources for "gourmet" veneer (quality or exotic in small
quantities) is Constantines on Eastchester Road in the Bronx, NY. They also
sell tools, books, finishing materials, glue, etc. They have a mail order
catalog and the web site is www.constantines.com. The web site includes an
onm line catalog. This includes an actual size full color catalog of veneer
species. Great if you are trying to match a particular wood and are not
familiar with the species.
The company has been around a long time and is very reliable. If I remember
correctly, long ago (a forerunner of the current company) they used to
supply lumber and veneer to Steinway Pianos, which are made in New York
