Nick, I agree with you. Pergo would NOT be my choice if I floored the whole
thing, for just the reasons you mention--weight and water. I'm fairly
confident that I can keep the floor I can see dry, esp as I'm here all day
every day and can catch any leaks right away. And that the extra weight of
the floor that is actually visible, not covered by furniture, isn't too
much. But if I were doing the whole thing from scratch, I'd lay a sheet of
good inlaid linoleum. Absolutely.
