I got one. It will pull the carpet up off the padding.

We have burned up a couple of Red Devil hand held units and an electric 
broom when someone on the list (Pearl maybe?) suggested a small shop vac
as 
being easy to store and having more cleaning power than the hand held 
vacuum cleaners that are a lot more expensive...We are now using a Shop
Vac 
brand unit that cost under $20 and works pretty good... easy to use and 
just dump out the tank and you are good to go...It was inexpensive to
the 
point where I felt it can't be much good at that price...it's about the 
size of a mans lunch pail...
