Gwen, I took my sink window plastic thingy and the shade out. Does your
shade have a gold fringe on it ? Not to my taste either. I drilled out
the pop rivets and out it came. I am using cheap plastic venetian
blinds, I cut the slats to fit inside the window lifter arms. I am still
working on how to secure the bottoms. Actually what I really wnat are
custom made wood blinds, stained to match the contact paper, which is
walnut, I guess.

Not a big curtain fan
