Travel topics are not the only ones that have been cut off from time to time by the monitors.  I was banished for a year for warning about unsolicited attachments and formatted mail.  The monitors at the time stated that such warnings were their province.

Also even well meaning threads like Vintage Pullers can be degraded by side chatter.  I sympathize with the monitors because there are so many of us with so many opinions.  My approach is to present topics that are of interest to me as a Vintage owner.  When the thread spins out of control I just avoid it.  A good sign that a thread is out of control is when someone changes the topic line.

Besides the technical information exchange, I find the travel information
dialog to be very useful.  This also includes solo travel logs, and
discussions of travel destinations. The real question is how or where to
handle it.

The VAC list members seem to take traveling in an Airstream more seriously
than most other groups.  This includes safety, planning ahead, and locating
good facilities in an unfamiliar area. [These facilities could include
everything from a reliable dealer or service facility to a nice campground.]

Therefore, it seems to me that it would be a disservice to squelch dialog on
any topic related to safe or enjoyable traveling with an A/S.  Thus solo
travelers may have information worth exchanging with VAC caravaners.  This
information could be more interesting and valuable than a trip report of a
VAC outing. [This is not to put down the need or desirability of learning
about an "official" function.]

There are many places to visit which are not well covered in the standard
media, or perhaps special concerns of these events which are conveniently
ignored.

For example, the recent Burning Man dialog.  I have heard about this event
prior to it's VAC list discussion.  However, I have not been to this
"happening", so I don't know if it is a West Coast Woodstock, a sex orgy, or
an interesting event.  Likewise, boondocking in the middle of the Nevada
desert has its own set of problems that a wise traveler should know about
before departing for such a place or event.  Hence, subjects of concern to
Airstream travelers at such a destination are valid topics for information
exchange, in my opinion.

I would also like to get input on many other places from VAC members who
have been there.  For instance, the annual opening of the Trinity Site at
Alamogordo, New Mexico [site of the first nuclear bomb blast].  How safe is
it, etc.?  How realistic is it to bring an Airstream to New Orleans for
Mardi Gras?  Ditto for Fantasy Fest at Halloween in Key West, Florida?

If topics like these are off limits for the VAC List, perhaps we should look
for a way to set up an alternate site for travel information exchange [or
rethink the definition of acceptable topics].

I look forward to hearing from other members on this subject, (assuming it
is not an "off list" subject).

Also, feel free to e-mail me directly.

I agree,
Hunter's list is for the people who want to chat about things that are not the most interesting unless you know all the players involved. I would like to see this VAC list stay more technical, as that was its' intended purpose.

Yes, I did get kicked off Hunter's list for not being "sensitive" to other's feelings.
