Jason, I will be going past the place that made my awning later today. Give
me the dimensions and # of poles and I will see if they would be willing to
do it for you and how much. Do you want the "scalloped" edging hanging down?
Do you want the standard Airstream Blue and White canvas material (it is
called Blue Fancy).

any sources for vintage looking awnings? Staked with poles is ok. I've only
been able to source 15' wide w/poles. Thanks!

Just a note about poles. I got a fantastic set of poles a few years
ago from REI. they collapsed inside themselves for storage and were
heavy duty with a spike at the top to go through the grommet. Use them
to extend the dry area in the campground beyond the awning of the bvan
with nylon tarps. I plan on using them for a period awning on one of
the two 50's trailers.

The best photo of that type of rig is in the 57 National Geographic of
the European caravan. The Author's trailer had a nice red and white
striped awning with scallops.
Send us a photo when you get it all done!

Pole type awnings are offered cheaply through J C Whitney automotive
catalog but out of new material. A man in the spartan club said they
were accommodating to his request but most manufacturers would most
likely want to be able to sell several at a time. Most fabric or
upholstery stores will not have this readily available from there
suppliers. Any upholstery shop would have the ability although maybe not
the willingness to sew it for you.

The advice of looking for places that repair or make sails for sail
boats to find the material is a great idea. Tee-pee manufactures is
another industry that is still using this material and you should find a
helpful site over the web that way.

Good luck

Hi Folks:

I have worked with Sunbrella fabric for awnings on my house and my trailer.
The stuff is practically indestructable. I had a sail cover that lasted for
decades sitting out in the sun in a salt environment in Bay Area marina.

The stuff is around $20 / running yard at 5 feet wide. It come in an
amazing amount of patterns and colors. They have some that essentially
matches my '60s Carefree awning (I haven't had to rebuild that yet,
knock-knock, only some smaller windows). They call it Yellow/White - 6 Bar.
They also make one similar Sapphire Blue/White - 6 Bar. And so on......

They put out a great brochure with all the different types. I'm sure that
they would be delighted to send you one.

Glen Raven Mills Inc
Glen Raven, NC 27217

Or do what I did and talk to a middle man who sent me not only the brochure
but a sample of the material too.

Ocean Electronics

Buford, GA 30518

I talked to Ken Stancoff who was very helpful.

Obviously you still would need to sew the material as it comes 60" wide max
(it also comes in 46"). All the awnings I have made so far have never
needed to exceed that width. Also, since I can't sew, I glued and clamped
it where it had to have overlaps, like on the edges and where the bead
attachment to the trailer is etc. Worked great for me. Professional sewing
would be better of course.

Have fun,
