For Ubuntu or Debian the automated installation mechanism you are looking for 
is called a preseed (for Fedora/RedHat it's a kickstart file).

To test this in a VM before applying to a real machine you'll want to use 
Packer from packer.io and then you can have it output a Vagrant box that you 
can play with and then when you are happy with the result you can separately 
build an ISO including that preseed file for bare metal.

I'd highly suggest checking out the github.com/Boxcutter and 
github.com/Chef/Bento repositories for Packer templates that include ones for 
Debian and Ubuntu and includes very complete preseed files.
