OK, so what I'm imagining is showing off a sample of MySQL's neat
query features, and ways to creatively write queries to get any kind
of information you want, in plausible contexts. I'm hoping that this
will both explain the "hardest" part of MySQL to people who are
already interested, and sell people who think databases are
pointless on all the neat things you can do. I think this is
possible to do in 15 minutes; I could do a MySQL II at a later
meeting if people were still interested after the first
presentation.
I think MySQL is really well documented in terms of installation,
backup, restore, security, so it's really the query concepts that
deserve a talk; you can RTFM for anything else. :)
Lemme know if anyone objects...

I'd be very interested in a presentation on MySQL--and one a lot longer

That sort of thing makes sleep poorly, if you know what I mean.

I don't mind getting up in front of people and making a fool of
myself! I know MySQL like the back of my hand - would anyone be
interested in hearing a presentation on that? It's extremely useful
for managing authentication and permissions for a number of
different applications, not to mention that in cases where not
Everything is a File, then Everything is Data, so it's extremely
useful to have fluency with databases. Otherwise, I could talk about
cyrus or about spamassassin - or many other things, since I have a
month to prepare. The presentations are ideally only 15 minutes,
right, so I could do something like "Crontab is your Crony!" or
something else really basic. I'm just not sure what's appropriate...

I liked Sam's proposal. I suggest we try to nail down a January meeting
by the end of next week.
We'll need a volunteer for presenting on January 19*, at 7pm, at UVM,
unless there's a more preferrable date. Anyone?
Meeting schedules are still posted at the Web site in my signature.
Thanks,

* Classes start again at UVM on the 17.
