If you know what your looking for (ie, cpu and memory -- aren't afraid of
upgrading yourself if it comes down to it) the Dell Outlet tends to have
great prices (outlet.dell.com).  You can also watch Slickdeals.net for the
weekly Dell deal that will usually net you a Q6600 (quad core) for ~700, or
a standard core duo w/ a 22" lcd for ~500.

With Dell you pay for the n series machines.  (more than you "pay" for the
Vista/XP license).
