Hi all--

My first computers were more fun (until now, with Ubuntu). My very first was a
Timex-Sinclair. It had 16K memory and no programs. I wrote a small basic
program to help me with my investments. I soldered together a keyboard. Later I
added a bit more memory. Got it up to 64K. Oh yes, some programs, on tape,
finally came along. Visicalc, with which I did my finances, and a very crude
word processor, with which I was immediately hooked, and a primitive chess
program.That was all fun.

Then came an Apple IIc. It was the first portable. And with it came
Appleworks--a wonderful suite that I learned to tweak. I looked into the code
and made changes to my liking.

But then, with PCs and DOS it got so that, as the article says, I had to take
the programs as they were--although I did lots of macros and stuff like that.

Now with linux I'm having that kind of fun again.

But let's face it, most of the people I deal with just want to do email and
maybe some banking and photos. The tool is the software, not the computer, for
them.

Hey Guys and Dolls,

I came across this blog with an interesting comment about " The
Universal Flaw of Computer-Based OS's".
This is a random find through Slashdot. I mostly agree with it and
there is plenty of room for discussion.

side note: NOAA shows that Sunday's temperature will rise to 53°F
OMG!! Head for the hills!
