This isn't a light alarm, but works well for me. I wrote a simple Perl
script which sounds by varying the number and interval of beeps. For
example, it may beep once at the set alarm time - pause 7 seconds and
beep 3 times - pause 4 seconds and beep 6 times, ...
The beeps aren't at all jarring, but I can't sleep through them as
they're irregular.

I hate being woken up by a loud buzzing alarm clock, or sleeping
through the radio. I've been looking into progressive alarm clocks and
I'm wondering if any of you know of some software that might do the
same sort of thing - turn on the screen and sound/song at a certain
time and slowly go to a white screen at 100% brightness and loudness?
