Rene & Dan-- Thanks for your help, but I have to confess to much confusion. I'm going to have to read up on Samba.
I do not, for example, have my mind around the concept of shares and sharenames. So I started looking that stuff up. And I still need to work on it--hence the reading up. But in the process I solved my problem--my wife can print now without having to enter a username and password. The trouble with stumbling around is that when you solve a problem you're not entirely sure which thing you did did the trick. I ran across a site-- http://www.pcmech.com/article/a-quick-guide-to-samba/ --that says, among other things, that if you put SHARE in the security line under [global] the server will not prompt for username & password. I did that and now my wife can print easily, but I did a few other things too; so I don't know what did what. Ah weel, life is a process. By the way, what is a sharename? Warner Oh, and I should add, that my network is sorta working, about the way it did before. But by ingenious moving from Moll to Josie and then to Caesar (or something like that) I can get files to where I want them. (And, of course, with two virtualboxes I have a combination of six computers on the network. Makes for interesting stuff.)
