I tend to agree. Much of what I've seen on the list has been oriented around what type of space people want, where it could be, and how to get it for cheap. I haven't seen a lot of discussion about what the space would be used for. It seems to me that a VT hacker space is more of a want than a need right now.

There are people who have mentioned using the space for collaborating on projects, but there aren't a lot of concerete ideas for projects being discussed on the list, and there isn't a long track record of a lot of successfully completed collaborative projects within the subset of VAGUE that is interested in a hacker space. According to Dr Phil and friends, past performance is generally the best predictor of future behavior.

As the previous poster alluded to, maybe we should try building a community that works on collaborative projects / bug fixing sprints / whatever that meets at homes, at colleges, in libraries, at cafes, etc until a perminent space is needed and can be supported for the long hall by a community of people.

Just a few thoughts based on what I've seen cross the list...didn't mean
to offend or upset anyone, apologies in advance if I have or did. :]

Same here. I don't want to crush anyone's dreams of a Vermont hacker space, I just want to offer up my opinion on how we can move towards a hackerspace that is sustainable by a vibrant and involved community of hackers.
