'Tis true, there is no automatic dependency checking. There can be, with third-party addon packages, but most serious Slackers would not do that.

My take on this dependency checking thing is this: If you're looking for a stable server-type use, you likely aren't going to be installing the latest toy-of-the-week-cool-new-app on it, anyway. There isn't much to be added to a server once the initial setup is done, so dep-checking would seem to be a non-issue, to me.

Even for desktop usage, like I use Slackware, the dep checking has never been a big deal. It's not difficult to manage, once you know what you're doing, and it really isn't as hard as some folks think...
