Dear Paul,

Having had some of my own submissions both accepted and rejected, I offer these
thoughts on your situation. First of all, Slashdot is primarily a news
aggregator, and readers expect to see a link to what is affectionately called
TFA, which few read anyway. But if there is no link, it is likely to be hosed
down. The exception is the Ask Slashdot section, which caters to broader
abstractions than the decision by MIT to quit answering ICMP requests, rightly
or not.

If you really want to get this on the front page, I surmise that you need to
communicate with the sysops at mit.edu and get them to publish an explanation
for their action. You can then link to something.

It'd be nice to just ask readers of /. a simple question, but unfortunately,
glitz and controversy, along with FUD and muckraking seems to dominate the
site. Best wishes in your quest.

Rick
