You're right - I sometimes fight myself between 3 and 4.  3 cuts down
on space but 4 is more natural (2 works but feels too compact and
isn't as visually pleasing).  However, I'd take 3 over 8 given the
choice.

I also agree on the 80 character limit - I just felt I had to mention
it as it was drilled into my Unix indoctrination (I once had a class
where the prof would automatically give you a zero if a single line
went over 80 characters).  Today though, I break the rule all the
time...  I mean that's what rules are for, right?
