Part of the reason i was looking at the p600 is the 70$ price tag also
the pci-x is required to work in my server. my desktop has both x and
e.... I havent seen much sub 200 that does raid6 let alone pci-x.
eventually i plan to upgrade servers and go with more expensive cards
but for right now i just need some thing basic hw raid6

I am looking for somthing like the HP P600 sas controller and a
compatible 30+ expander for my systems.
May I suggest checking out the LSI (nee 3Ware) controllers? Some of them
are very, very nice, with a full suite of RAID capabilities, GUI web
interface or CLI (though getting it running on Debian is, alas, not
entirely easy; ask me for a repo I found if you go this route), all sorts
of live modifications to the array, etc. Oh, yeah: and it's "real" RAID,
with the XOR ASIC onboard, and a battery for non-volatile flushes.

The expander is prefered to be sas2 so I dont have to upgrade things
later on. 1 controller has to be pcix the other could be either x or e.
the p600 looks like a good fit for my needs and price but cant really find
a good answer as to what expanders will work with it.
suggestions are appriciated.
also has any one played much with the 8-12 core amd's? looking to set up
a pair of boards to run a bunch of vm's
