Greetings List Lurkers,
Welcome to your semi-official notice of the Barre Open Systems Institute
(BOSI) Adult Swim. The swim stars at 5:00 PM), when we shall continue to
wander in a stupor randomly attempting to fix the the chaos of dealing
with all manner of technology, with full faith and knowledge that the open
source stuff is really the way to do it.
The problem today is that it is the season to show and tell, and we are
prepared to do neither...
The summer love affair with the Arduino now blossoms into a
marriage. Two open source events, one this coming Saturday and another on
Saturday the 29th now command our attentions, as we need to have show and
tell at both. The first step was to get another Arduino board. All the
boards we have are busy doing things.
Between Julie Lerman's very exciting VTCode Camp this Saturday and the
Maker Faire later this month on the 29th, we seem to have a whole bunch of
audience available to learn about the Dallas 1-wire sensors configured
using the Chris Yarger method and our flashy new hardware enclosure method
showcasing the Arduino. What we need desperately is an organized way to
present this information.
While "tsp" site has been updated: http://docbox.flint.com:8081/tsp and
contains more pictures and will have pictures of the enclosure soon. Chris
and I must now throw together a presentation on this system for both
VTCode Camp next week, and the Maker Fair in Burlington
(http://www.champlainmakerfaire.com/) on September 29th. My own vanity
plays into this; we need to stop thinking about all the other projects,
the pellet furnace, the snowbot
and Robots Rules and we must discipline our thoughts towards
presentations...
Wanna go ride bicycles? How about play with the serial interface to the
snowbot? Is A.D.D. a terrible disease?
Any other ongoing, or maybe not so ongoing... projects, but again not as
cool as the new one include:
http://docbox.flint.com:8081/arduino - moving in the arduino groove
http://docbox.flint.com:8081/javajive - to get better at Javascript
http://docbox.flint.com:8081/tsp - Temperature Sensors Project
http://docbox.flint.com:8081/robotsrules - The quest for Roberts Rules of
Order
Otherwise, Barre indeed remains a great venue for a Linux and Open Source
Software meeting. That said, must organize ourselves around the
presentation of the Dallas Semi "1-wire" temperature probes, and the
Arduino, with winder coming this may truly become the coolest thing all
year. Should we bring the electric wheel-chair and more old computers
than you can imagine to the gatherings?
Do not forget that the Barre library stocks "Linux World", the DVD are soon to
be available. Don't reveal your source, I think I have some fines overdue...
Anyway, come and do open source stuff. For more information about the BOSI
Adult Swim meeting time and location try this:

Show up at the the Hedding United Methodist Church Basement if you have
questions or are interested in Linux or the concept of free and open systems,
The basement of the Hedding UMC facility is actually working out pretty well.
If you wish to be included on the "Linux_adult_swim" mailing list, send a
response to this note. Note that the mailing list system is a bit peevish
right now. Let me know if you have any difficulties. Note that I will be
updating the list-server by next week.
Kindest Regards,
Paul Flint
