Greetings List Lurkers,
Welcome to your semi-official notice of the Barre Open Systems Institute (BOSI)
Adult Swim. The swim stars at 5:00 PM), when we shall continue to wander in a
stupor randomly attempting to fix the the chaos of dealing with all manner of
technology, with full faith and knowledge that the open source stuff is really
the way to do it.
The problem today is that I had to spend way too damn much time actuall
(ahem...) Working!!! But as they say, eh, I need the money...
We got to one of the two open source events, code camp VT which was
excellent, but my botching some adminstrivia kept us from the Maker Faire
on Saturday the 29th, so it goes... We have done good show and tell and
would have been happy to do both, but a weekend off is always a good way
to catch up on what is broken around casa flint. Julie Lerman's very
exciting VTCode Camp two Saturdays ago was enough, and the Maker Faire we
may try to get to next year. I am interested in how much of the audience
at CMF was interested and available to learn about the Dallas 1-wire
sensors configured using the Chris Yarger method and our flashy new
hardware enclosure method showcasing the Arduino. The crowd at Code
Camp Vt seemed to get the funny part. We can continue to desperately
scheme up an organized way to present this information.
While "tsp" site has been updated: http://docbox.flint.com:8081/tsp and
contains more pictures and we have have pictures of the enclosure now.
We now can get back to thinking about all the other projects, the pellet
furnace, the snowbot and Robots Rules. We must discipline our thoughts
towards presentations...
Look, shiny...
Any other ongoing, or maybe not so ongoing... projects, but again not as cool
as the new one include:
http://docbox.flint.com:8081/arduino - moving in the arduino groove
http://docbox.flint.com:8081/javajive - to get better at Javascript
http://docbox.flint.com:8081/tsp - Temperature Sensors Project
http://docbox.flint.com:8081/robotsrules - The quest for Roberts Rules of Order
On Robots Rules, we heard from the professor at Evergreen College, stay
tuned.
Otherwise, Barre indeed remains a great venue for a Linux and Open Source
Software meeting. That said, must organize ourselves around the
presentation of the Dallas Semi "1-wire" temperature probes, and the
Arduino, with winder coming this may truly become the coolest thing all
year. We can and will bring the electric wheel-chair and more old
computers than you can imagine to other gatherings.
Do not forget that the Barre library stocks "Linux World", the DVD are soon to
be available. Don't reveal your source, I think I have some fines overdue...
Anyway, come and do open source stuff. For more information about the BOSI
Adult Swim meeting time and location try this:

Show up at the the Hedding United Methodist Church Basement if you have
questions or are interested in Linux or the concept of free and open systems,
The basement of the Hedding UMC facility is actually working out pretty well.
If you wish to be included on the "Linux_adult_swim" mailing list, send a
response to this note. Note that the mailing list system is a bit peevish
right now. Let me know if you have any difficulties. Note that I will be
updating the list-server by next week.
Kindest Regards,
