Greetings List Lurkers,

CP Yarger blew up the power supply on his favorite computer this weekend, and so runs over to the BOSI shop to try to fix it. Several hours later he manages to get a new supply, but that is another story.... In the mean time he has left the old abandoned power supply corpse open on the BOSI electronics bench, surrounded by tools and test cables strewn around... but wait - there is his electric bike in the corner broken into pieces and in roughly the same state...

So today we are having a contest for this Dirty Bird. Here are the choices...For coming over and repeatedly violating the rules of the BOSI shop, which are:

1. One thing at a time.
2. Write down what you are doing.
3. ALWAYS clean up and put the tools back where they went.

(Here is where your vote comes in:^)

You, as a list lurker vote that:

1. Yarger looses BOSI shop privileges for 1 month.
2. Yarger looses BOSI shop privileges for life.
3. Yarger is hunted down by the community, drawn and quartered

Please send your answer in the form of a vote and I will get back to you with the tabulated answer. Please consider the cruelty of the offense when voting...

So otherwise, this is the official notice of the Barre Open Systems Institute (BOSI) Adult Swim. For those coming in via the Google Plus and the Internet, The swim stars at 5:00 PM EST, our continuing vanity being to include a goggle hangout https://www.google.com/calendar/render?pli=1 until 6:00 PM EST.

One very serious issue is we will have pizza, probably burned but what the heck...

I still am somewhat interested in this an idea I had on vacation, to add to all the historic markers RPI based FM transmitters that you could tune into if you were near the site...

I am working up the site here:
http://docbox.flint.com:8081/oralhistory

As I said last week, if you have any great ideas you want to share about open source drop me an email and I will embelish the site with your thoughts.

We still need to get this other latest project working, and at least Shawn (OTD who gets his power supply today) and I know how to edit it:

http://bzinga.net - What happens when you combine Bash and Zenity?

Projects abound....We must help Big John finish up the kiosk project.
I actually think this shall be a good thing. The next step is to figure out how to run the Java validator on a raspberry pi... The next step this week is dd'ing the boot sd correctly.... Remember when dd'ing always set the bs as high as possible.

Our ongoing major objective is to continue to try to figure out how to invest the time and resources to turn the Barre Open Systems Institute into more than just the Adult Swim technical clinic and more into a real learning facility. Thankfully we have input both from several sources on this topic. At risk of repetition, anybody willing to actively get involved here is blessed. We have had some interest from the folks at Norwich, the Young Hackers Academy in Montpelier, and the Greenfield Tech Scouts are actually here with Bram, but actual structure seems still pretty far away.

As I cannot say too damn often, The meeting today is back at 40 Washington Street, Barre, VT 05641 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM!

The BOSI Adult Swim is essentially about helping out fellow users of open source products in a clinic environment. Despite my very best of intentions, the Adult Swim is really almost a perpetual Linux install-fest, and only secondarily a learning environment,

Once again, the goal of the meeting shall be as usual, to get organized
and try to get the various projects moving forward.

The ever growing list of projects (now on our web site :^) includes:
- http://bzinga.net - cool stuff with Zenity and bash scripts, see:
- http://docbox.flint.com:8081/nodejs - ok, it is on the list.
- http://docbox.flint.com:8081/snobot - jesum they love this robot
- http://docbox.flint.com:8081/furmon - monitor that pellet furnace
- http://docbox.flint.com:8081/arduino - moving in the arduino groove
- http://docbox.flint.com:8081/javajive - to get better at Javascript
- http://docbox.flint.com:8081/tsp - Temperature Sensors Project
- http://docbox.flint.com:8081/robotsrules - The quest for Roberts Rules -
- http://docbox.flint.com:8081/visual.bash - Yea, I am not kidding...
- http://docbox.flint.com:8081/mrtg - remedial raw mrtg for the slow...
- http://docbox.flint.com:8081/raspberry - all rPi'ness
- http://docbox.flint.com:8081/strembot.org - maybe a very cool project.
- http://docbox.flint.com:8081/organized - oh please let me be organized!
- http://docbox.flint.com:8081/music - this may be the least organized
  site ever!

Otherwise, Barre indeed remains a great venue for a Linux and Open Source Software discussion and general system rejuvenation. Expect to be remotely preached at on the various topics of Open Source and how I am confident it shall cure all the evils and ills of this wicked world. In a perfect meeting, people would come in, sit down, see the stuff we have been doing and hopefully help us get the DIY stuff we are doing done, or maybe just fix a laptop.

So, do not forget that the Barre library stocks "Linux World", and the latest issue is on the shelf, and it is good. The DVD's are available to checkout and copy, we shall to continue provide copies and isos of each and every one. Anyway, come and do open source stuff. Show up at Hedding UMC if you have questions or are interested in Linux or the concept of free and open systems. Again, we are in the basement of the Hedding UMC facility which is actually working out pretty well.

If you wish to be included on the "Linux_adult_swim" mailing list, send a
response to this note. I will lilkely be south for next weeks meeting.

Peace out and...
