For your information:
The installation of CyanogenMod to the Amazon Fire 5th gen was successful.
I used the new adb and fastboot tools I built from the source code I
extracted from Google's Android build system git repository, but the standard
tools from Ubuntu or other distributions should do as well.
The tablet has a stable connection with my network and I am now exploring the
tablet's capabilities.
So far so good.....
