On Linux, we sometimes use "sudo su username" to quickly switch users,
but this doesn't yield a clean environment. We sometimes hit C-A-f1 to
get a new virtual console, but if there are a bunch of user sessions,
this trick can mess them up, since session switching is still broken in
some desktops (loginctl). Besides, you might want to reference something
in your original session's display.
This works:
[acarrico@silver:~]$ machinectl login
Connected to the local host. Press ^] three times within 1s to exit
session.
<<< Welcome to NixOS 20.09.2483.c5c6009fb43 (x86_64) - pts/18 >>>
Run 'nixos-help' for the NixOS manual.
silver login:
See also 'machinectl shell'. I think 'systemd-container' is needed on
Debian based systems. I must have used this command everyday since I
discovered it.
