The University of Vermont (UVM) is looking for a Linux System Engineer
to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity for growth and
development, working with the latest Linux technologies and supporting
security-focused initiatives in a fast-paced 24x7 production data center
environment.
As a crucial member of the Infrastructure Team within the Systems
Architecture & Administration department, you'll be responsible for
configuring and maintaining hundreds of Linux servers and petabytes of
SAN storage that support all aspects of server computing at UVM,
including research, academic, and administrative functions. You'll also
provide vital support for departmental applications and assist with
operating system upgrades to ensure that our Linux environment remains
secure and up-to-date. In this role, you'll utilize your automation
skills to create scripts that manage and monitor services, ensuring
consistent configuration across services and thousands of users. You'll
also play a key role in system tuning, troubleshooting, capacity
planning, business continuity, and system documentation, working
collaboratively with other team members to ensure the smooth operation
of our Linux systems. With your attention to detail and good judgment,
you'll make sure that any changes to system-level software are carefully
planned to reduce negative impacts for our users.
We are looking for the right person to join our team and are willing to
hire at an entry/mid-career or senior level, with a salary commensurate
to experience.
