Have you thought about using eglib https://github.com/mono/mono/tree/master/eglib to aid your project?
Personally I've got this idea about using Vala with Marc Lehmann's libev and libeio instead of glib's event loop/io. A bit like a gene/vala's version of nodejs I guess. I don't know how if I could piggyback on your posix profile to do it?
