DES, I suggest making it an optional ./configure option. That way you could still build it the old way if you wanted. From my perspective the value of the feature would justify having two regex implementations in varnish. Make the default the current one. You can tell by looking at the patch that regex is not used extensively anyway so it's not likely to matter much. It's not a lot of different code.
