If someone manages to draw the inference from "There but for the grace of god go I" to "serve when stale if backends are unhealthy or sessions are busy waiting", they should win some kind of prize. Per's point being, I think, that however appropriate the name sounds once you've understood it, it's not possible to understand it in the first place without consulting the docs. On the other hand, it's not at all clear that renaming "grace" to something like "serve_when_stale_if_ ..." and so forth makes Varnish any easier.
