I've patched varnishncsa (as of 3.0.3) to add an option for logging the total time to answer a request. I needed this myself, and it seems to have been requested a couple of times by others (e.g. http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/varnish/misc/26408?#26408). The patched version has been used for well over a month now on a few clusters, without any apparent issues:
https://gist.github.com/4175582#file-varnishncsa-request-time-patch I've also created a git fork to get this into trunk: https://github.com/KlausBrunner/Varnish-Cache However, I understand that varnishncsa will be broken on trunk as long as the API rewrite isn't finished. So I can't even test it there. Should I submit a patch against trunk anyway, or what's the preferred way of getting this into the next release (assuming that you accept it)?
