Dear Louise,
Thank you so much for your support.
Goans abroad can actively participate in the campaign to save their own
village by:
1. Appreciating the work being done by their fellow villagers at home in Goa.
[As a rule, we are quick/generous with criticism and slow/miserly with praise.
appreciation does wonders to the one who is working hard. A personal email
and/or a posting on the net helps.
2.Create a yahoogroup or google group for the cause [if not already created,
such as Aldona Bachao <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>] or join the existing group and
interact/Moderate . Post on the netgroup to encourage/provoke the members to do
more, to suggest action plans.
3. Encourage your relatives and friends in Goa to support the local
initiatives. Networking and PR are not the strong points of all local leaders.
4. Provide information that you may have or have access to [Frederick sent me
the soft copy of the Peaceful Society's booklet on "Gram Sabha" on Saturday. We
used it on Sunday at the Gram Sabha in Aldona. We shared information with the
Moira villagers. A friend gave us access to the ACRON promotional brochure with
details that are not common knowledge in Goa.Eric Pinto, a New York based
Aldonkar sent a Goa Sudharop questionaire for assessing development. Each piece
of information helps. Send it if you have access to it.]
5. Sign on-line petitions
6. Finance space on flickr.com to host photo images of projects [It costs as
little as US $50.0 or just US $5.0 per person if 10 villagers abroad join
together]
7. Create/finance a website. These issues are not going to blow away
tomorrow. The Real Estate companies have sunk millions in to these projects. It
is going to be a long haul to prevent them from re-floating the wrecks. We have
to be at least as successful as Anil Salgaocar in preventing the Government of
Goa in re-floating of the "River Princess" at Sinquerim-Candolim.
8. Help fund small activities like printing of leaflets, obtaining documents
under RTI, etc through relatives in Goa. It may cost about Rs.1000/- or less
for printing, as little as Rs.100/- for getting a file under RTI. Just pick the
bill and pay it or reimburse the receipt. Easy money corrupts even good people.
Be careful not to over-fund. For Aldona Bachao Abhiyan [ABA] we have created a
separate jointly operated account as we have for the Goa Bachao Abhiyan [GBA].
Accountability is important. Money even corrupts saints.
9. When you are in Goa, meet the people who are risking everything for the
village and tell them you are proud of them. Enquire if they are threatened and
share their fears and anxieties. The management gurus call it APPRECIATIVE
ENQUIRY. It works wonders for the unsung, unheard heroes[ of either gender and
all ages] just to know that someone cared.
If you are in Goa during a Gram Sabha in the village attend it. Many
Aldonkars attended a Gram Sabha for the first time in their lives this Sunday
..and spoke. It made a huge difference.

This is brilliant news! I hope that more people become aware and
more such developments are stopped. Please let us know how we goans who are not
in Goa can help, I try by signing the online petitions and sending messages
when requested. I would love to do more

Dears,
The Real Estate lobby had not reckoned with the RTI and the awareness
level of the sussegado Goykars in protecting their sussegado
lifestyles.
Sussegado lives of the Goans are the envy of the whole world. The
irony is that if all the world comes to Goa PERMANENTLY, Goa will no
longer remain sussegado. So let the world come as tourists, enjoy Goa
and return to their lands ...to leave us Goans to lead our own
sussegado lives.
And it is not Acron "Developers" alone. Almost all "Real" Estate
companies are trying to act like photo developers ...and do it in the
dark. The strip-tease has begun. They and their financiers are likely
to get exposed ...and not just financially!

They have pledged to revoke Acron's licence to table any future building
projects before the Gram Sabha and we have elected a WARD DEVELOPMENT
COMMITTEE, comprising of two volunteer representatives from each of the seven
vaddos.
