Dears, It is Mrig Nakshatra Din or Mirgacho Dis. The monsoons have set in, the Western Ghats Kokum Foundation [WGKF] has led the people of Goa with tree planting at the Goa University campus, where it has planted and nutured seedlings in to big trees ..... just as its Vice-Chairman, P.G.Kakodkar, has led the people in planting and nuturing Rain Trees and Badam Trees on what is now named the Dr. Jack Sequeira Road. His statue rightly points its hand to these trees, the revival of Goa's greenery for the Dona Paula-Taleigao-Bambolim plateau began here!
Another Plateau has another story. A young lad,Nilesh Naik, sacrificed his life to save the Arla-Buthkhamb-Keri plateau from industrialisation. Nilesh, unlike his name sake Neelkant, did not survive the ordeal. If not the poison of the industrial effluent, the poison of the industrial product...a bullet.. killed him. It was not a bullet from a terrorist ...unless one can call the Goa Police a terror outfit. Some of the people who led Nilesh to the sacrificial altar ...like Moses took his son Issac .... have forgotten him. The Government of Goa , whether led by current BJP member or a former BJP member, has forgotten Nilesh. The rest of us in Goa have not! We still have our Gram Sabha meetings with intimidating Riot Police in attendance. We celebrate World Environment Day with Riot Police in attendance. We will be there at Keri-Ponda this evening ...perhaps, with Riot Police in attendance. Tomorrow the meeting of the minds of the people across Goa is at Advalpal ...just over the hill from the Tivim Railway station. The rains do not suppress the voice of the people ...try as the Government of Goa may. Governments last for five years at best [the previous three Governments of Goa have lasted two and half years at best!] .Goa has survived near total destruction at the hands of Ibn Batuta in the 15th century [Read Manohar Malgonkar's book, INSIDE GOA for details] at the behest of the mad Emperor Mohammad Bin Tughlaq. Can the CM of Goa be madder than Tughlaq?
