If the problem isn't with extensions, then it's possible that the CH modules you're trying to open (I'm not sure who's responsible for those modules) use old VASL custom Java classes, which aren't compatible with the latest VASSAL version. If so, you can try opening them with an earlier version of VASSAL (on the downloads page). Only modules that use custom Java classes can possibly give you this error.
