You may need to remove the existing non-working imagefiles from your 
modfile before you can re-assign the image. In Explorer, Associate .mod 
w/ WinZip, then double-click the modfile, it will open in a WinZip 
window. In WinZip Options > Configuration > View tab > Columns, check 
Path ON. Highlight all instances of your problem imagefile (regardless 
of file extension) and Delete (Actions > Delete) them. They'll all be 
in a Path named 'images'. Close the WinZip window and re-open the 
module in the VASSAL editor, nav to the gamepiece in question & re-
assign the imagefile - use only a jpg, gif or png file, do NOT use the 
bmp file. hth.
