If you are considering doing some sort of map preview window, then it
would be an excellent time to add another feature, besides a grid
overview, that I would love. How about reporting the current cursor
position in pixels (x,y) as the mouse moves across the image? You
could show this in a corner of the window, and it's easy to do -- it's
usually an exercise in the java books for doing mouse handling.

Why would I like this? It would be a huge help in positioning pieces,
decks, etc on the maps and boards. Right now I open the image in
Paintshop Pro so I can can pixel locations.

Speaking of images, has anyone else had the problem that if you
repeatedly open and close games, then in usually short order, the main
map image won't appear? This can happen pretty quickly, and I end up
shutting down vassal and restarting it when I want to load a game
again. I suspect there's a memory leak someplace, and perhaps the old
window or image is not being disposed properly.
