Hi William,

This is a symptom of Java running out of 'heap' memory on your system.

Here's how to change the amount of memory allocated on XP:

1. Edit The properties of the VASSAL shortcut you have on your desktop. The
target should look something like:

"C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.2_08\javaws\javaws.exe" "@D:\Documents and
Settings\Brent Easton\Application
Data\Sun\Java\Deployment\javaws\cache\indirect\indirect3902.ind"

2. Now go and find the .ind file it is pointing to and edit it. It should
contain something like:

D:\Documents and Settings\Brent Easton\Application
Data\Sun\Java\Deployment\javaws\cache\http\Dwww.vassalengine.org\P80\DMws\AMvassal.jnlp

3. Next, go and find the AMvassal.jnlp file it is pointing at and edit it. It
will contain a buch of XML, part of which will look like:

<j2se version="1.4+" max-heap-size="256m"/>

Change the "256m" to "512m", save the file and try again.

Cheers,
Brent.
