and manually install VASSAL. This keeps all of the parts together and
is never updated, it is up to you to manually download the new
installer and updated each time VASSAL is updated.

  Hi Brent,

   I've been using that method on both winblow$ and Linux for
   quite some time now. The heap sizes never have to be changed
   for an upgrade because the command line never changes.
   Pref files are still placed in hidden directories though.
   I made a USB stick with VASSAL/VASL so I can play on any
   computer with JAVA and it still want's to place the prefs
   on the HDD rather than the stick. Is that a JAVA thing?
