I'm considering ways to move to a more de-centralized server for VASSAL. Basically, the idea is that anyone who volunteers could host a server on their machine, and they'd coordinate with a central registry so that players could still find out who's connected and playing which modules, etc. Some of the things to consider are whether to make an http-based server that would be easier to host than the current one (which requires shell access and an open port), and making the server code open-source.
So let me kick off the discussion with a poll. Please respond if you'd answer "yes" to any of these questions: Would you host a VASSAL server if it required shell access and an open port? Would you host a VASSAL server if it required hosting a Java servlet? Would you host a VASSAL server only if the server code was open source? Interested in hearing the responses. rk [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] ------------------------ Yahoo!
