I've done that just now: I deleted the preferences file, and clicked
the 'run Vasssal' link on the Vassal website.
It asked me which folder I wanted to install the documentation in, I
accepted the default and clicked 'open', and then it just re-installed
the ReferenceManual folder again.  Didn't install the User's guide.
