I'm connected now using direct connect. I had to open up port 5050 on my router to allow the connection. Shut down VASSAL, unplug from the net and then start VASSAL, launch your module and try to connect. You'll get the direct connection box. Plug back into the net, make sure you're back online (leaving that direct connect box open) and then type in your opponents ip:5050 (it gives the instructions). You should then see him join you in the main room.
