I am running a PC with windows XP.

The java version seems to be jre1.5.0_06 (there is another folder 
with jre1.5.0_02). (or maybe java 5.0.20.9??) I am not sure which is 
the version...

I have changed the heap size in the AMvassal.jnlp file to 512m (and 
actually more) but that does not seem to have any influence.
