Hi Darcy,

"Version Mismatch" is really a warning, not an error and will generally not 
affect your play. It just warning that the version of VASSAL the module was 
saved with is later than the version of VASSAL being used to play the module.  
Unless the module has been changed to use some new feature that did no exist in 
the earlier version, there should not be any problems.

If you wish to prevent the auto-update procedure, you can either install VASSAL 
stand-alone as a non webstart application (Manual Installation - 
http://www.vassalengine.org/community/index.php?option=com_static&dir=downloads&page=index.html&Itemid=26)
 or you can start the webstart application in offline mode which does not check 
for updates.

Most likely, your playtesters have the online webstart disabled. They can 
update VASSAL manually by clicking start -> Run... -> javaws, then click on 
VASSAL, then click the 'Launch Online' button.
