Yes, all your images are stored in the module. Yes, it is okay to remove unused images from the module. Others with more experience can talk to the existence of a utility for loading images quickly. I assume that you are talking about something that will quickly register your images as particular counter types? Such a utility would work by editing the module's build file on the fly. Open up the build file in a text editor and take a look at what that looks like.

I though I was well on my way to creating my first Vassal Module. Over a several days I created and saved a module using JPGs (counter, maps, others) I had stored in certain subdirectories. I had created a lot of different subdirectories in the process and decided to "clean up" by renaming some subdirectories and moving some of the files around. Then I made some changes to the Module and tried to save it. Vassal would not let me save the module - it gave me an error saying it could not find the path to some of the images. So does Vassal store images in the module or not? Also, I have images listed in the counter properties that I no longer use. Can I delete the unused images from the file or list? Finally, is there any utility or method to load scanned counter images rapidly? Thanks for any assistance. Michael [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
